Motorcycle Safety Awareness (MSA) is a Solidarity project co-funded by the European Solidarity Corps Programme, run by a team of five young people from Cyprus. The project is supported by the Research & Innovation Center for Social and Educational Sciences (RISC).

The aim of MSA is to address the critical gap in current road safety strategies in Cyprus by introducing inclusive, skills-based training sessions specifically designed for licensed motorcyclists. These training activities aim to enhance riders’ competence and confidence through comprehensive safety education and advanced riding techniques, ultimately reducing the high rate of motorcycle accidents and fatalities on Cypriot roads.

Analytically, the objectives of this project are:

  • To design and provide free hands-on training courses for licensed motorcyclists in Cyprus as a vehicle to enhance their riding skills, competences and techniques and contribute towards a safer motorcycle experience;

  • To contribute towards the reduction of the number of motorcycle accidents on the road with an overarching goal to limit the number of fatalities of motorcyclists;

  • To train at least 50 licensed motorcyclists of different ages and genders with emphasis to young people with no more than 5 years of experience in motorcycle;

  • To promote road safety in general as a means to reduce road accidents in Cyprus;

  • To launch a targeted online awareness campaign to promote the importance of a continuous motorcycle safety education for different levels of experience;

  • To foster a sense of community among motorcyclists in Cyprus, encouraging the sharing of experiences and lessons learned contributing to a culture of safety and continuous improvement;

  • To influence public perception about motorcycling contributing towards breaking social stereotypes regarding among others the profile of motorcyclists and the riskiness of motorcycling.
