The aim of SeniORGarden is to empower seniors to remain socially and physically active by engaging them in
intergenerational learning on the Action “Sustainable Agriculture in the EU” of the very important European Green Deal. More specifically, SeniORGarden will centre on creating a training programme for combining the wisdom of seniors on gardening practices and the advanced new technologies skills of young people into learning how to create and maintain organic gardens utilising eco-friendly and smart technologies. The objectives of the project are to:
-
Equip senior people with knowledge and skills required for the development and maintenance of organic gardens utilising customised smart gardening devices and practices;
-
Establish a sense of community and social inclusion among seniors by participating in mixed with younger generations organic and smart gardening group activities to encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and mutual support;
-
Educate participants on sustainable gardening practices, fostering environmental management by emphasising on ecofriendly approaches, water conservation, and by reducing the overall environmental impact of gardening activities through organic cultivations and smart technologies;
-
Encourage the cultivation of organic trees, vegetables, and herbs in smart gardens, promoting healthy nutrition among senior participants and enhancing their overall well-being and physical activity;
-
Create a sustainable model for the project that includes ongoing support, mentorship, and community engagement, ensuring the long-term success and impact of organic and smart gardening practices among senior citizens.
